A Little Bee-Hind was created from a desire to care for bees in a way that honors their natural instincts and ecological importance. Our apiary is rooted in the belief that healthy hives begin with patience, observation, and respect.
We proudly serve Maryville, Blount County, Monroe County, and East Tennessee, offering bees and products that reflect both place and purpose.
A Little Bee-Hind was founded from a deep respect for bees, nature, and sustainable living. Our journey began with a desire to work with the hive rather than against it, honoring traditional beekeeping values white educating others about the importance of healthy pollinators.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. From careful hive management to environmentally conscious product practices, we aim to protect pollinators, support our local ecosystem, and educate the community. Choosing A Little Bee-Hind means supporting ethical, mindful beekeeping that benefits both the bees and the people of East Tennessee.
A Little Bee-Hind Apiary began in April of 2020 as a family hobby. What started with two colonies in the front yard of our 11 acre homestead nestled at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains near the Little Tennessee River in East Tennessee grew to much more.
The bees, in their quiet wisdom, became our teachers. They revealed the rhythms of the natural world and helped us rediscover our place within it.
Our first two colonies were locally mated Carniolan/Italian Nucs from Sevierly Buzzed Honey, a seasoned apiary in Sevier County. Since 2013, they've been selecting bees for qualities essential to thriving in East Tennessee: winter hardiness, gentle temperament, strong honey production, and resilience against mites. These open-mated queens and their descendants have gradually adapted to our region, becoming a lineage rooted in the hills and hollers.
We live in mindful partnership with thriving honey bee colonies across the foothills of East Tennessee, guided by the principles of sustainability and respect
We gather from the apiary in alignment with the Honorable Harvest by taking only what is freely given and always leaving enough for the bees
We offer the products and information of the apiary to the community: locally adapted queens, healthy bees, pure raw honey, and apitherapy products with intention, gratitude, and care
Beekeeping has become more than a curious hobby, it’s become a path. Through the rhythm of the hive inspections, we’ve learned to slow down, listen deeply, and be fully present in each interaction.
The bees have shown us a part of life we forgot: a quieter wisdom, a deeper connection to nature, and a reverence for the sacred in the everyday.
It’s this experience, this return to presence and purpose that we hope to share with you.
