Our queen bees are selected for calm temperament, reliable brood patterns, and adaptability to the East Tennessee climate. Raised with care and intention, each queen is handled minimally to support successful introduction into your hive.
Seasonal availability ensures queens are offered only when conditions support their health and performance.
Buying bees locally helps ensure they are already acclimated to the forage cycles, climate, and seasonal challenges of East Tennessee. Local bees experience less shipping stress, often establish faster, and tend to overwinter more successfully than imported stock.
Our colonies are raised right here in the apiary. Locally grown and guided by the flow of the land. Our queens are open-mated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, near the winding waters of the Little Tennessee River where the Blount and Monroe Counties meet.
We thoughtfully select our breeding colonies based on traits that are important to us: overwinter survivability, gentle temperaments, and honey productivity to ensure our genetics are suited to thrive in East Tennessee.
Our queens are a hearty Carniolan/Italian cross with local genetics. Our queens are raised in the apiary and open-mated in the foothills of East Tennessee. The result is what we jokingly call an East Tennessee Mutt. She is a diverse, regionally adapted queen with the resilience and temperament suited to thrive in our unique environment.
We believe in honoring the natural rhythm of the hive. To keep our queens as stress free as possible, we avoid the use of incubators, queen banks, and do not interfere with her emergence, mating flights, or colony establishment. Each queen remains with the colony that she emerged with until maturity so we can evaluate her quality as a laying queen. She is only caged at the day of scheduled pick up to ensure least amount of disruption to her natural reproductive cycle.
Queens may be available for same day pick-up.
